Dermaplaing is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment designed to deeply exfoliate the epidermis and remove excess vellus hair for healthier looking skin and a radiant appearance.
Dermaplaning is a simple and safe clinical procedure that exfoliates the epidermis (top layer of skin) while removing vellus hair (peach fuzz). While the procedure has been around for 35 years or more, it has recently gained popularity in the aesthetics field.
The procedure is completed by gently gliding a stainless steel scalpel blade across the skin to remove keratinised cells (dead skin) and vellus hair. Dermaplaning can help smooth scaring, reduce uneven skin tone, as well as minimise fine lines and wrinkles.
Dermaplaning is non-invasive and can be performed on a monthly basis in 45 minutes as a luxury facial. The skin is double-cleansed, sterilised, dermaplaned, deeply rehydrated and then protected with SPF. There is no post-treatment downtime following this procedure and most clients are suitable for dermaplaning.
At BTX Advanced Aesthetics we exclusively use CLINICCARE® products in our dermaplaing facials. Dermaplaning is great for those clients who want a deep exfoliation but are unsuitable for chemical peels or other harsh exfoliating products. It is also a wonderful treatment for clients who suffer with excess vellus hair. Vellus hair can cause a build up of debris and oils in the follicle. Removing this hair gives clients healthier looking skin and a radiant appearance. Removing hair and excess debris from the skin allows active ingredients in skin care products to penetrate better and with less product. Dermaplaning can also be used prior to a skin resurfacer and other medical treatments to increase effectiveness and produce deeper, more even results.
Yes, dermaplaning is safe for all skin tones and poses no risk of PIH (Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation).
No, dermaplaning is non-invasive and does not cause any pain or discomfort. The sterile scalpel blade glides across the skin's surface at a 45 degree angle similar to shaving.
No, dermaplaing only removes the vellus hair. Vellus hair is soft, fine and downy and covers the face and body apart from the hands and feet. Vellus hair is non-pigmented (or only very lightly pigmented) and grows to only 2cm in length meaning it's not capable of growing back thicker and darker from dermaplaing.
