WHAT IS 'BOTOX'?

Botulinum toxin, commonly referred to as 'Botox', is a type of protein used to relax the muscles under the skin. It is used to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and now more commonly used as a preventative measure to delay signs of aging.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Botulinum toxin is injected superficially into targeted muscles of the face and works by blocking the chemical signals that cause the muscles to contract. This gives the skin a more tight and smooth appearance, and can also ease pain associated with some overactive muscles such as the masseter muscle responsible for teeth grinding/TMJ.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

Botulinum toxin requires little to no downtime and is safe for most clients. The treatment is quick and most clients experience little to no discomfort. The number of injections vary depending on the area treated but only a very small needle is used and only a small amount of product is administered with each injection.

IS IT SAFE?

At BTX Advanced Aesthetics we only use prescription medications that are MHRA approved and licensed in the UK for cosmetic purposes. The botulinum toxin is purified and diluted so it can be safely administered to treat our clients.

HOW LONG DO RESULTS LAST?

The appearance of the skin can be seen to improve with each day following the treatment and full results can be seen after 2 weeks. At two weeks our clients are invited to attend a review appointment where we assess the results and make adjustments if required. By 12 weeks the botulinum toxin will have slowly metabolised and the muscle is safe to treat again if desired, however, most clients retain their results for longer than this period.

"STATIC VS. DYNAMIC LINES, WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?"

Dynamic lines are wrinkles that appear when the muscles contract e.g. smiling, frowning, raising the eyebrows. These lines are best treated with botulinum toxin to prevent them from forming static lines. Static lines are wrinkles that are visible even when the face is relaxed and at rest. Microneedling is a good option for those looking to treat static lines already formed in the skin.

"WILL MY FACE LOOK OVERDONE OR UNNATURAL?"

No, wrinkle relaxing will give significant but natural looking improvements. As well as relaxing wrinkles, it can even gently lift and tighten parts of the face, giving a soft, youthful and awake appearance. Unlike dermal fillers, where the facial features are augmented, botulinum toxin works to improve the natural structure and unique features of our clients.
